Is Patagonia one of your favorite brands I am going to share the best places to get Cheap Patagonia deals! This will include jackets, caps, shirts and more! Make sure you check out all the Clothing Deals.
I may not be climbing mountains anytime soon but I still love the look and feel of the super-popular Patagonia brand! They are definitely one of my favorite brands! The quality is great and they have such great styles! That quality does cost you though! So I am always looking for the best deals on all their clothing and jackets! Here are some of the places that have great Patagonia deals!
Southern Patagonia flights are operated by small Chilean carrier DAP airlines. This airline connects 2 airports in Argentina (El Calafate, Ushuaia) with the Chilean Antarctic capital Punta Arenas. Other places covered from Punta Arenas are Porvenir, Puerto Natales and the southernmost city in the world Puerto Williams.
Another option is to use Facebook Marketplace, which is similar to Craigslist. You can find tons of great outdoor gear deals on the Marketplace and many sellers are willing to ship. Facebook even has their own payment system to protect sellers and buyers from fraud.
Tip: When I was researching Patagonia rental car prices, I found that it was the cheapest to rent a car from Punta Arenas airport over other locations. This might be something worth looking into if you are on a tight budget!
I have also read horror stories about people trying to take their rental car across borders between the likes of Mendoza and Santiago, and places in the north. But to be honest, for those renting a car in Patagonia, I never met anybody who had any problems.
However, there is one place where you can see spectacular mountain peaks, watch glaciers calve into milky blue lakes and spot rare Patagonian wildlife, all on about $20 USD per day: El Chaltén, Argentina.
In addition to hiking, there are plenty of other immersive ways to experience El Chalten. You can go ice trekking on a glacier, or paddle the turquoise waters of Las Vueltas by kayak or raft. For some otherworldly TLC, cozy up to a fireplace in a specially designed eco dome, complete with views of snow-capped Mount Fitzroy.
The difference between these two rates can make or break your trip budget. In January 2022, I got about 100 ARS per USD if I used my bank card. Many places in El Chaltén accepted USD at the rate of 200 ARS per USD. I exchanged cash in Buenos Aires for 213 ARS per USD. If you pay cash USD at your hostel in El Chaltén, a 2,000 ARS bed costs 10 USD per night. If you pay with your credit card, the cost doubles.
Stocking up on food for the duration of your hike in Torres del Paine from the supermarkets in Puerto Natales is the cheapest option, just make sure you bring cooking facilities as these are not available at all campgrounds.
Staying in El Chaltén is not the cheapest (a bed in a dorm room will set you back at least $18 USD and will need to be booked in advance during the high season), but the access to day hikes, such as spectacular Laguna de Los Tres (12.5km) and Laguna Torres (11km), completely make up for it.
There are many companies in tour that offer tours, but if you stay at Base Backpackers you should meet people and you can ask to trek with them. This is the backpacking place everyone goes to to find out information for the trek. There are a lot of places in town to rent gear if you need. Check it before you go on your trek. In El Chaltan these hikes are popular and you will be passing many people. All the best and have a great time.
Hi Craig, When hiking in Torres del Paine there are only a few hotels you can hike from. We recommend Eco Camp. You can do different hikes with them or on your own to different parts of the park. You can hike the W trek on your own and book at the accommodation places. They are not cheap but the price includes dinner and breakfast. If you choose to do this option, you need to book the accommodation in advance. As for the entrance fee you get that on the day you enter and that will last for the period you are in the park. Have a great trip
Thanks for sharing, this sounds like awesome fun. I gather from your post that having our own tent and gear is a must Would you also recommend buying a van or are most places accessible by bus and little hitchhiking
Hey! When will you guys be in Patagonia exactly Crazy! Myself and a bunch of travbuddies ( about 20 of us ) are going to antarctica Feb 5-15 and then trekking and visiting around Patagonia after that for a few weeks! Maybe , just maybe, we will be at the same place at the same time!

Generally speaking, Central America is even cheaper because it is closer to the USA and you can find more cheap flights. Flights to places like Brazil and Argentina can be quite expensive, but there are lots of other cheap South American vacations to take.
Paraguay is an underrated travel destination in South America. Sandwiched between Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia, it is often overlooked by travelers. However, because it is not very touristy or popular, Paraguay is one of the top cool cheap places to visit in South America.
The shoulder seasons of spring or autumn are the cheapest times to visit Patagonia. Plan your flights well in advance for cheaper prices, and consider taking cheap local buses around the area.
However, I'm buying from Australia and the only place I've found that seems to have both in stock with international shipping is Moosejaw. Unfortunately moosejaw charges a flat rate of US$80 for shipping to Aus which is a bit over the top.
Can anyone suggest where else I might try I've bought some stuff from campsaver.com before and boulder mountaineering, and both have only charged me the actual shipping cost (or a bit less). Fast shipping and good service from both places.
Hi Ashley,Due to licencing agreements or something most places won't send Patagonia gear to Australia. You can buy direct from Patagonia, you need to phone them up, not sure of their shipping costs, but it shouldn't be more than 80 bucks! If you find somewhere good that will ship let me know!!
Ben that's a very generous offer, thanks. If I can't find a place that will ship them to me for a reasonable price I'll certainly be in contact. I've emailed Patagonia's online store to see what they would charge for shipping, so will wait to hear back from them first.
But here's the real winner! Patagonia sizes are sometimes a bit weird, especially in there women's gear. Any time I've had a problem with sizes, I've rung back and explained the problem. They have then sent replacement items at no shipping charge. Occasionally this has included two new sizes, and one time two extra items I wanted to order. These get billed to your credit card, and then credited when you return the wrong sized item. Their customer service is absolutely superb.
The best way to reach Patagonia depends on the starting point for your travel in the region. The three most popular places to begin are Ushuaia in the far south, Bariloche in the north, and El Calafate, which is midway along the backpacker route.
Punta Arenas, Chile, is a useful place to stop when travelling in Patagonia. While breaking up the journey neatly, the city has a tax-free shopping zone called Zona Franca, which is great for stocking up on food, clothing and equipment for trekking in Patagonia.
If you are planning to hike in Torres Del Paine, check out our guides to hiking the W Trek and the best day hikes in the park. For accommodation, see our articles on the best hostels in Puerto Natales and stunning places to stay in Torres Del Paine.
They have a dedicated sales section where you can find a ton of great deals including full discounted bikes, cycling apparel, bike components, and more. Competitive Cyclist is one of my go-to places for bike gear!
I will actually be flying out of Riga (Riga -> Santiago -> Puntas Arenas) in March to visit patagonia. The plan is to go start in Puntas Arenas and drive around there. Are there any other reputable rental car companies besides ADEL that you would recommend
Well said, and I certainly agree with you! Jackson would be a difficult place for people who think as you, Jay Kemmerer, and I do! Thanks for posting your thoughts as I could not commented as well as you did!
If you're traveling to South America in summer you should have Patagonia high up on your list of things to do. With this list I show you the best places to visit in Patagonia and give you more information how to plan a trip to this gem in South America!
If you want to get there quickly you should travel through Argentina and cross over to Chile Chico as this place is also very remote. The reason to do so: the marble caves in the General Carrera lake. I recommend to checkout the tour companies right in the center of town where you can book excursions in this region, including tours to the nearby Northern Patagonian Icefield!
If you don't have as much time you can also consider doing a shorter patagonia round trip by using El Calafate as starting/end-point of your trip, there are regular flight connections to Buenos Aires. To squeeze in also Torres del Paine you could consider the previously mentioned day tour! 59ce067264
